Michael Brennan. One dollar. Twenty-two under par. And — the cherry on top — dropped by CP back in Week 10 like a bad tip from a stranger at a bar. That's your Wyndham champion, and he single-handedly turned WILSON's weekend into a coronation.
WILSON cruised to -47 (best-3 of -45 plus the -2 champion bonus) and took the week by four over STAT SHEET at -43. Brennan (-22), Justin Thomas (-12), and Jordan Spieth (-11) — vintage Sedgefield names doing vintage Sedgefield things. Twenty-five bucks to WILSON, and more importantly, the smug satisfaction of owning the guy CP threw back into the pond. Brennan was a WILSON-started $1 lottery ticket that hit the Powerball. The transaction karma is delicious.
In the timeline where CP had the foresight to start Ben James (-18) and Chandler Phillips (-10) over Aaron Rai (-8) — which is to say, the timeline where you correctly guessed two Korn Ferry-flavored long shots would outshoot a top-30 OWGR name — CP finishes at -36 and gives WILSON a real fight. CP left 12 strokes on the bench. Nobody was starting Ben James over Aaron Rai on Thursday morning, but the ledger doesn't care about defensible reads. It just prints the number: 12.
On the Homa Cup front, this was mostly a quiet week for the big fish. Scheffler and McIlroy stayed pat at #1 and #2, both bleeding a rounding-error dollar each (Scheffler lost $1.07, Rory $0.81). Harry Hall — a $6 KALLAS deep cut who's been irrelevant all year — actually jumped from #88 to #77 and gained KALLAS $0.67, the first green shoot from that bench slot in months. On the other side, Sepp Straka slid three spots and cost KALLAS $0.70; Tommy Fleetwood held at #6 but drifted another $0.46 for CP, extending a slow, steady rust that's been the story of his whole season. KOVALA's Matt Fitzpatrick is still stapled to the #4 slot, up $28.13 on the year — the diamond of diamonds.
Segment 3 is in the books, and KOVALA takes it wire-to-wire: 154 points, a 15-point cushion over CP, and a cool $100 segment bonus. That puts KOVALA at +$200 for the segment cash race, the runaway leader. WILSON's $25 for the week is nice, but CP and WILSON tied at $25 for the segment. VANILLA (-$75) and STAT SHEET (-$50) are picking up the check. Playoffs start next week — the segment cushion doesn't carry, but the money and the bragging rights do.
Goose egg of the week goes to VANILLA's Ben Griffin, a $21 starter who couldn't be bothered to see the weekend at Sedgefield. That's real money to spend on a missed cut on a birdie-fest layout. Honorable mention to CP's Brian Harman (also cut), which stings a little extra when you remember CP also owned the winner earlier this year and let him walk.
