Michael Thorbjornsen shot -18 at Detroit Golf Club for his first PGA Tour win, and NIMSGER — who was in dead last a week ago — rode the $8 auction lottery ticket from 8th place to 1st in a single weekend. Worst-to-first, 18 points, $25 in the pocket. Every team should have a week like this once a year; NIMSGER has now used their allotment.
NIMSGER's -45 was never remotely threatened — KALLAS was seven strokes back at -38, and the closest anyone else got was KOVALA at -35. Thorbjornsen led the way, Matt Wallace threw in a T5 at -13, and Davis Thompson chipped in a -12. Speaking of Wallace: JORGENSON dropped him in Week 18. And then re-dropped him in Week 19, apparently just to make sure. NIMSGER picked up the scraps and just cashed a $25 check. Karma with a wedge in its hand.
Biggest what-if of the weekend goes to VANILLA, who left 10 strokes on the bench. In the deleted scene where VANILLA benches Harris English (who shot +2) and starts Brandt Snedeker (-8), they climb from dead last into the middle of the pack. Instead, Snedeker sat while English hemorrhaged strokes, Ben Griffin ($21) missed the cut, and VANILLA finished 8th for a $25 last-place fine. Rough draft of a weekend.
On the Homa Cup ledger, Xander Schauffele finally showed some pulse for KALLAS — climbed from #15 to #9 OWGR and gained KALLAS $5.49 this week, easily the biggest weekly swing on the board. He's still only up $2.37 since draft day on a $34 price tag, but that's the first real green shoot in a while. Thorbjornsen himself jumped from #68 to #40 and gained NIMSGER $4.44 in a single week — from Homa Cup irrelevance to actual asset. Cameron Young remains the season darling, still up $33.39 for JORGENSON since January, even after a quiet -0.33 week. Maverick McNealy remains VANILLA's season-long $16 anchor, doing nothing to help.
Segment 3 has one event left and KOVALA is sitting on 144 points — 11 clear of CP, 23 clear of JORGENSON. The $100 segment bonus is very much KOVALA's to lose. CP had the momentum coming in off an 18-point win, then promptly dropped to 6th this week, so the gap actually widened. KOVALA has also stacked $200 in segment cash already; VANILLA sits at -$75 and would need a small miracle at the Wyndham to climb out.
Goose egg of the week goes to JORGENSON, who managed to start two cuts in one weekend: Chris Gotterup ($16) and Akshay Bhatia ($13), for $29 of starter money that produced zero holes on the weekend. VANILLA's Ben Griffin ($21) was more expensive individually, but JORGENSON did it in bulk, so the honors are theirs.
One more transaction note: Chris Kirk finished T8 at -12 for KALLAS after being picked up on waivers... this week. First start, top-10. VANILLA drafted him, CP cycled him twice, and KALLAS is the one who cashed the ticket. The Chris Kirk hot potato has a winner.
Next up: the Wyndham Championship, final event of Segment 3 and KOVALA's chance to close it out. Cameron Young (JORGENSON) is the marquee name in the field at #3 OWGR, with Aaron Rai (CP), Justin Thomas (WILSON), and Hideki Matsuyama (STAT SHEET) also in play. Ben Griffin gets a chance at redemption for VANILLA. He owes them one.
