Jackson Koivun's -25 rookie win did most of the damage, but Brian Harman (-20) and Emiliano Grillo (-19) also decided to show up. Everyone else was playing for second before Sunday even started.
CP takes the week, the $25, and a rookie for the ages — Jackson Koivun, a $0 snake pick, ran off with the 3M Open in his first career win. And the twist: Brian Harman, CP's T3 finisher at -20, was dropped by KALLAS not once, not twice, but three separate times in Weeks 18 and 19 before CP scooped him off waivers. That's a haunted-house-level exorcism of a roster move. KALLAS finished sixth this week; Harman alone would have moved them up two spots. Karma has a scorecard.
In the deleted scene where NIMSGER started the correct three golfers, they would have posted -52 and finished a competitive third instead of a distant last. Denny McCarthy shot -20 from the bench. Davis Thompson shot -19 from the bench. Tony Finau, who got the start, missed the cut. That's 34 strokes of leak — the biggest what-if of the season by a country mile. Alas, no DeLorean.
On the Homa Cup wire, Cameron Smith climbed from #142 to #126 and gained KOVALA $0.86 — the largest positive swing of the week, and a small green shoot for a $6 flyer that's still up $4.25 since draft day. Hideki Matsuyama jumped from #30 to #25 on the back of his T2 finish and gained STAT SHEET $0.62, nearly zeroing out his season deficit. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, did nothing all week and cost NIMSGER $0.79 — season-cumulative he's still barely above water at $0.69 up, which for a $42 anchor is not the return the invoice suggested. Season leaderboard still belongs to JORGENSON's Cameron Young, up $34.23 since draft day.
Segment 3 is now a five-point race with two events left. KOVALA sits at 132, CP at 127, JORGENSON at 117 — and $100 is waiting for whoever's on top when the music stops. KOVALA has been quietly hoarding cash all segment ($200 balance, best in the league) despite finishing seventh this week; CP just booked their first $25 and pulled within striking distance. STAT SHEET and VANILLA are both -$50 for the segment and would like everyone to stop talking about it.
Goose egg of the week is a group award and it goes to NIMSGER, who somehow started three cut golfers in the same lineup: Tony Finau ($11), Rasmus Højgaard ($4), and Johnny Keefer ($4). Finau alone is the headliner — an $11 starter who missed the cut while Denny McCarthy shot -20 on the bench — but the sheer volume here is the story. STAT SHEET's Sungjae Im ($12) also went home Friday, which is the kind of thing that happens when you play STAT SHEET's schedule.
Next week it's the Rocket Classic in Detroit. Cameron Young (#3, JORGENSON) headlines the field, with Chris Gotterup (JORGENSON), Russell Henley and Xander Schauffele (both KALLAS), Wyndham Clark (KOVALA), and J.J. Spaun (CP) all teeing it up. JORGENSON, who's owned this segment on paper but not on the scoreboard, gets a chance to make the math work.
